About ACR-GNY

The Greater New York Chapter of the Association for Conflict Resolution serves the entire Greater New York Region, including parts of Northern New Jersey and Southern Connecticut.

Its membership includes professional and volunteer mediators, government employees, lawyers, arbitrators, environmental public policy specialists, community and consensus-building facilitators, ombuds specialists, educators, students, and others involved in alternative dispute resolution.

ACR-GNY provides information and educational programs to its members and the public to promote understanding and improved use of conflict resolution methods and services.

About ACR

The Association for Conflict Resolution (ACR) is the preeminent national not-for-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the practice and public understanding of peaceful, effective conflict resolution.

ACR represents and serves a diverse national and international audience that includes more than 7,000 mediators, arbitrators, facilitators, educators, and others involved in the field of conflict resolution and collaborative decision-making. ACR’s members come from diverse backgrounds but share a common commitment to advancing the field of conflict resolution.

ACR was launched in January 2001 through a merger of the Academy of Family Mediators (AFM), the Conflict Resolution Education Network (CREnet), and the Society for Professionals in Dispute Resolution (SPIDR). The organization is based in Washington, DC. It has 9 Chapters nationwide. 

The Chapters enable members to meet personally in their geographical areas and attend programs and activities that support their professional development. Chapter members conduct locally focused programs and activities, share ideas, promote best practices, and make networking connections throughout their areas within and outside of the ADR field.

ACR’s activities are managed by a national staff of 16 employees under the leadership of its Executive Director. A 16-member Board of Directors headed by the President provides guidance on all policy issues.
