ACR-GNY & CUNY Dispute Resolution Center at John Jay College present

Technology & Dispute Resolution: Ethics & Practicalities for Reducing Risks & Harnessing Opportunities

The application of technology to dispute resolution has grown exponentially in the shadow of the pandemic, particularly in the use of remote video conferencing. The use of online dispute resolution platforms and artificial intelligence continue this trend. The disruptive nature of technology provides new opportunities for increasing access to justice while also raising new ethical issues for our processes. We will examine this in light of expanding choices and risks when technology is integrated into dispute handling. Ethical principles and standards for applying technology to dispute resolution will be explored and we will discuss ways to operationalize them in our practices.
